About Us
Grand Master Clarence “Daddy-O” Smith
currently resides in Los Angeles,
California.
As a martial arts enthusiast, Master Smith
earned and was awarded his title of
Grandmaster in 2004 after practicing
Tang
Soo Do for 35 plus years. Most of his
teachings and competitions were on the Texas
state circuit where he was mentored by Grand
Master James Cummings.
Grand Master Smith
competed on the state, national, and
international levels. He received many
accolades including: Four-time Instructor of
the Year, Three-time School of the Year,
2003 and 2006 Competitor of the Year, and
was also inducted into the National Hall of
Fame in 2003 as “Most Distinguished Master”
and Hall of Fame in 2007 as “Most
Distinguished Grandmaster” by International
Martial Arts Council. Grandmaster Smith also
received a Lifetime Membership Award from
IMAC in 2007.
Grandmaster Smith was recently named to the
Directorship of Southern California. |

Grand Master Smith was the proprietor of the
Karate Institute, a state of the art
training facility in San Angelo, Texas and
produced well-accomplished martial artists
such as Walter (Putt-Putt) Bryant, Clarence
(Juice) Bowman, Jim (JR) Ross and Mike "Wolfman" Jones
(also instructed by Grandmaster Balmos).
Some of his protégés went on to compete
nationally and internationally. In 2008
Grandmaster Smith was inducted into the Hall
Of Fame as a Silver Life recipient.
In February 2008, Grandmaster Smith attended
the Annual Kyusho International Training
Course. He achieved his Level certification
for Kyusho Tactical Applications. The course
consisted of three dimensions:
- Rigorous training of the constant
training environment, with gun handling,
safety and dynamic live fire sequence
training.
- Rapid Fire and controlled targeting
to assure accurate shooting skills from
concealed and tactical position.
- Rapid blade work working with
multiple angle and cutting method.
Defensive Tactical capabilities of both
Bladed Weapon and Firearms
In his spare time, Clarence enjoys reading,
music, movies, and playing golf. Clarence is
a true family man and enjoys spending time
with his children. He is a
member of the Church of the Beach Cities. |
